"I've Got a Dream!" - FEEDBACK PLEASE! :)

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine who is quite successful in the blogging world (you can read her blog at this link) informed me that my blog has an ranking. What is this Alexa ranking you ask? Well, it is a measure of my site's popularity. According to Alexa's site:

The rank is calculated using a combination of average daily visitors to and pageviews on over the past 3 months. The site with the highest combination of visitors and pageviews is ranked #1.

So out of all the websites in the world, I'm number 3,921,934. Not too shabby! :) The number is large, but even having a number attached to your site is an accomplishment as most personal sites are not ranked at all. I don't share this to gloat. My reason for sharing this is twofold:

1.To share my desire to become a professional blogger with you - my readership.

2. To get your feedback on how I can do that. I want that number to drop!

Another friend of mine shared this article on Mormon housewife blogs with me back in January. Reading that article really fanned my blogging flame! And so I admit to you all here my small (impossible?) dream: I want to be a Mormon mommy blogger. That little number has given me hope that maybe, just maybe, that goal is within my reach.

And so I ask those of you who read my blog on a regular basis: please, comment and let me know what you think.

-What type of posts do you like the best?
-Would occasional giveaways peak your interest? (i.e. Jewelry made by me, etc.)
-Are the new Amazon ads on my sidebar annoying to you? (Just as an FYI: I hand-picked all the items scrolling around on them.)
-What turns you on to a (my) blog? What turns you off to a (my) blog?
-Would you like my blog (or me) less if it became more popular?
-What about more popular mommy blogs turns you off? (If anything - because I know I have a few things that turn me off to some of them myself.)
- How could I make my blog better?
- Plus, anything else you might like to add.

Please comment and help me out! I would sincerely appreciate anything and everything you have to say.

  1. Yeah, I'm super excited to be your first comment. And even though I'm probably not your desired demographic, I'll still comment. Your blog rocks! Ads don't bother me, especially since it's obvious you hand-picked them. You're not weird or cheesy, either. I love that you're always upbeat, optimistic, and realistic, and that you wear your faith proudly without being preachy or self-righteous. It's great that you have so many interests, and that you always do the research and share it for anyone who's interested. I love that you're both "normal" and "extraordinary" without trying too hard. I would never need give-aways...don't know if this helps, but that's how I feel.

  2. I second Lori about everything. You talk about real things in your life--real things that interest real people. You are a very good writer and it is easy to read your posts. I think if you are going to do a giveaway you ought to start off with your jewelry. People need to know how awesome it is. If you do that though make sure that people have a way to purchase your jewelry because a lot of people are going to see it and want to buy it. :)
Thanks for the shout out by the way!

  3. Jami, I've always enjoyed reading your blog! I like the recipes, your honesty (birth story!), your humor, your sewing projects, and your sharing of anxieties, cause you are all those things in real life! I like that you don't just post pictures about your baby or your husband and what you did that weekend (which in my opinion turns me off from blogs, unless they're related to me!). I also hate complaining/vent blogs. But, you never do that. I also hate Mommy blogs that are so cheesy and happy, like their life is perfect. I like how you describe things you're trying to get better at. And I don't mind the ads because they are things you've talked about, are passionate about. Makes sense to me! I love the blog. keep it up Jami!

  4. ya know, I like reading your blog...although I must say, Squire hasn't written his side of the story as promised... He-Hem! :P

  5. opps! I signed in under my husband's name...

  6. If you want to be a popular Mormon Mommy blogger I would check out other popular M.M. bloggers and see what they do that you like. The ones I know of and enjoy are: Cjane, NieNie, and Design Mom. I think they are probably the most widely read.

  7. Do you remember our discussion we had at work about what bugs me about mormon mommy bloggers? You are a good writer and I think you should go for it. You have a loyal reader in me!

  8. Thanks for all the feedback and support, everyone!

Oh, and Suzy - I already posted on your facebook, but just in case anyone was thinking the same thing as you, here is the link to Squire's perspective on the birth of Lincoln:
