I'm not going to lie though, I really enjoy that station 3/4 of the time, but there are also some other really annoying children's songs that pop up on that station too. I hastily "dislike" all of them in hopes of never hearing the likes of their awkward corny lackluster tunes again! But they still manage to find their way in every now and again.
If the song isn't Disney, I usually just dislike it or click to play the next in the queue. But a couple months ago when the song, "Centipede Pirate" popped up on my Pandora station, I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard and the bobbing of my head that ensued. Squire was in the room with me and his reaction was the same. "What the heck is this?!" we thought out loud. "This is kinda cool children's music!" We clicked to look at the artists page, then started to listen to the other songs that were on the CD. After listening to a few of the other songs, it was only a matter of about 30 minutes before we had purchased our own copy of the CD "Field Trip" by Recess Monkey off of Amazon.
You can listen to the streaming playlist of all Recess Monkey's music at this link, or you can watch "Centipede Pirate" here:
Apparently, I'm not the only one who has noticed that these guys are rockin' the children's music boat. Check out this screen shot I took of their website:
I've driven a couple of my friends' kidlets around town on a couple trips to the zoo. They are a few years older than Lincoln so I was excited to try the music out on them and to get their reactions. And? They loved it. Centipede Pirate got stuck on repeat about 30 times before I insisted we listen to some others . . . ;) They weren't disappointed with the others either. This one also quickly became a favorite (I especially love the R-E-S-Pionsibility line at 1:47. It's clever and funny.):
The videos are a little dorky and hard to watch, but the music is sound. ;) Get it?! Ok, I'm done. Seriously though, this children's music is witty. Every song has a different flavor, but still captures that something of a child's view of the world. I totally recommend their CD, "Field Trip" (if you couldn't already tell . . . haha.) I plan to buy more of their music in the future. For now I'm just enjoying the one - and Lincoln is too. :)
And just in case you were wondering - Nope! I wasn't paid or compensated in any way to review or recommend this CD. I just thought it was a really good find and wanted to share. Happy listening!
Please share your favorite children's music with me if you've found a gem too!
