Thank you, St. Martin!

Squire and I had a great date last night all thanks to BYU's German department and the Catholics! We celebrated St.Martin's Day (click the link to read more about this Saint and the holiday) by making our own paper lanterns and singing traditional "Martinstag" songs while parading around campus with about 50 other BYU students, faculty, and their children.

***Side Note: I graduated with my degree in German, and after about 2 years of coaxing, finally convinced Squire to take a German class. He is taking 101 right now and loving it. He heard about this activity from his class.***

Here is a picture of my lantern. Just some Fall decor.
Here is a picture of Squire's. My German professor commented on the very "Republican" lantern Squire had. He didn't realize his animal and color choice coordinated so perfectly until that comment was made. Hah!Here is a picture of Squire and I after our date. He's so tall, it seems like I can never get a picture with the top of his head in the picture too!

Also, for your listening pleasure (I say that with a smirk behind my computer screen here), we've included a clip of us singing just a couple verses of the "Ich geh mit meiner Laterne" song for you all. The translation is included at the bottom of the video.

video
Ich geh' mit meiner LaterneI go with my lantern
Und meine Laterne mit mir.And my lantern goes with me.
Da oben leuchten die Sterne,Up above the stars are shining,
Hier unten leuchten wir.Down here we're shining.
Ein Lichtermeer zu Martins Ehr!A sea of light in honor of Martin.
Rabimmel, rabammel, rabum.Rabimmel, rabammel, rabum.

Ich geh' mit meiner LaterneI go with my lantern
Und meine Laterne mit mir.And my lantern goes with me.
Da oben leuchten die Sterne,Up above the stars are shining,
Hier unten leuchten wir.Down here we're shining.
Mein Licht ist aus,My light is out,
Ich geh' nach Haus,I'm going home,
Rabimmel, rabammel, rabum.Rabimmel, rabammel, rabum.

Happy St.Martin's Day!
