"You're killin' me, Smalls!"

So, I am already showing quite a bit! As evidenced by the photo below. This was taken today. I'm 16 weeks and 4 days.
I have been pretty fortunate to not be too sick. The first trimester I felt nauseous throughout the day (whoever called it "morning" sickness in the first place was never pregnant - it's all day sickness). Lucky for me though, I have only thrown up once (at 15 1/2 weeks on a long car ride). But, every time I have felt sick or uncomfortable up to this point, I like to tell my baby, "You're killin' me, Smalls!" A line from the classic and one of favorites, Sandlot. As a result, Squire and I often call our baby "Smalls" as an alternative to calling him/her, "it", which I can't stand.

October 14th, assuming Smalls isn't too bashful, will be the day we find out our baby's gender! I find it quite hilarious how everyone is so certain about the gender of my baby. They look at me with a squint, and then decidedly shake their heads, "You're having a boy. I can tell by the shape of your stomach.", or "I think you're having a girl. I can just feel it." Haha! I have my own inclinations. If I had to be forced to guess, I'd probably lean a little bit more towards a boy just because of the way the baby was moving in the 10 1/2 week ultrasound. **Side note: I couldn't believe how much our baby was moving and stretching during the ultrasound! It was adorable.** But, who really knows? I surely don't claim to know. I'm just trying to wait patiently until I can find out for sure. The wait is difficult! I can't wait to start buying things for the baby and to adjust to the idea of having either a baby boy or girl. The vision of each is so different. I want a girl, and Squire wants a boy, but ultimately we will both be really excited for whatever we get. We are just excited to get to meet our baby!

I have been feeling what I have been pretty sure were the baby's movements for the last several weeks. Usually just when I was hunched over my belly, typing on the computer, or when I was laying very still on my side. They were pretty spaced out and sporadic before, but now I feel them several times a day and sometimes in the middle of the night. But, I was always unsure as to whether I was really feeling the baby or if I was just making it up in my mind, wanting to think I was feeling my baby move. But, a few days ago at work my suspicions were confirmed. I was sitting down on my lunch break and I felt my baby move. So I poked back wherever Smalls was kicking, and after a couple minutes, Smalls started to kick/punch in the same places I would poke my tummy! How cute is that?! I'm pretty sure our baby is going to be VERY active and VERY strong. Please pray for us now. ;) I can even occasionally feel Baby Hepworth kicking away when I'm standing now. I love that. Squire can't wait until he can feel the baby kick on my tummy. He always tries to reach out and touch my tummy when I tell him I can feel the baby moving, but I think it will be a while yet until he can play the poking game with Smalls too.

So, what do you think? Will Smalls be a boy or a girl? Cast your vote with a comment! I'll let you all know the day we find out. :) More updates to come soon.

  1. Ok so I JUST watched that movie today!! I love it! I'm so excited for you:) It is so exciting when you feel your baby more often. And it is such a sweet moment the firts time your hubby can feel it too. Christeen would be such a tease. She would be so active and as soon as Russ would put his hand on my belly she would hold still, when he would take is off she would start moving again. So funny! And you look stinkin cute in that pic by the way!

  2. Jamie i remember all this all too well!!! I remember having those exact same thoughts about my baby moving! Isnt it just the greatest feeling ever??? I dont know about you but at that point i started to feel like a mom! The waiting game is just no fun! I found out the week after the "day after Thanksgiving shopping!!!!" I was so mad! I could have shopped big time! It all goes by fast though so just love each moment till "smalls" comes to meet you! I am guessing a girl!

  3. I totally didn't feel Rex move until 24 weeks or so so lucky you. It's fun to know you're not crazy or just getting fat and that there's a real baby in there. As for me, I vote girl.

  5. My vote is a boy. And I can't believe you've been feeling your baby for weeks already! That's early! I remember starting to feel my babies at about 16 or 17 weeks, where I knew it was them. Congrats and good luck!
