What I've Been Cravin'

We've all heard (and some have experienced) stories of freakishly strange cravings during pregnancy. (i.e. Pickles in ice cream, dirt, grass, etc.) I'm often asked about what I've been craving as a pregnant woman.

Here's my list for posterity:
  • Fruit Loops (Mostly just during the 1st trimester)
  • Bread/crackers with cheese (Mostly during the 1st trimester)
  • Nectarines (Yum! I eat one every or every other day.)
  • Milk (We have to buy the 2 gallon pack from Costco at least once if not twice a week now.)
  • Sour Candy (The sour patch watermelon candies and Trolli gummi worms more specifically - though I've only given in to this one on a few occasions.)
  • Del Taco's chicken quesadilla (This was just a one time craving - gross, huh?)
  • A Pumpkin cupcake with chocolate ganache (This was my first pregnant craving. It was also just a one-timer.)
Not too weird. Mostly, things just taste different as a pregnant woman. My aversion to ground hamburger and red meat has only strengthened. I have to be flexible with my meal choices day to day because I never know what might sound unappetizing - even if I ate and loved it a week earlier.

***SIDE NOTE:*** Although red meat options are less appealing to me these days...this recipe for 3 cheese and sausage stuffed zucchini was rather delicious. That is homemade tomato-basil soup. And my homemade bread recipe - with 1/2 whole wheat flour! I have a lot more time to cook these days. Squire's and my new family favorite is this recipe for artichoke spinach lasagna. I added some chicken and a small grated zucchini and cut back on some of the mozzarella cheese and veggie broth and it was FANTASTIC. Didn't get a pic though.
But, life is good. No nausea, though I'm fearing I will have pretty bad heartburn and acid reflux by the end as that is already beginning.

But, this post is about cravings. Other things I'm "craving":
  • Knowledge of my baby's gender - I'm going crazy not knowing! Only two more weeks from today.
  • Nesting - I want to start sewing and making things for my baby. This is also stifled by #1 on the list.
  • Big baby purchases - I'm really itching to buy a car seat and stroller. I've been researching a lot the last week and am pretty sure I have my favorites singled out, but Squire says we need to still wait a little while before we buy.
  • Sleep! Who knew you could get 8-10 hours of sleep a night and still need a nap during the day?
  • Holding my baby. I can't wait to meet and hold Smalls!
What were some of your most interesting cravings while pregnant?

  2. Someday I'm going to learn to cook something that isn't mixed with a can of cream of chicken soup! :) You inspire me.

I haven't had many weird cravings. But I definitely have the hamburger aversion and I am hungry all the time!

  3. This comment may come a little late, but I definitely craved nectarines too! I had at least one a day. The best part about that is that Emma now LOVES nectarines and eats them often. My most weird craving though was sour cream. I would eat it straight up. Weird. I know.
